If you are a patriotic American, and you don't find your heart pulsing in rhythm to 'The Star-Spangled Banner,' 'God Bless America,' or 'You're a Grand Old Flag,' it may be time for a checkup. When was the last time one of these songs put a lump in your throat or brought a tear to your eye?
Here at Classy Plaques and throughout our country, summer is the time we reflect on the freedom we enjoy. At the end of May, Memorial Day marks our launch into summer as we reflect on the great cost of freedom. Then on June 14, we honor the symbol of American freedom on Flag Day. On the 4th of July, we celebrate the independence of our country.
Add to this the emotional return of 34,000 troops from Afghanistan this summer (roughly 40% of current US troop deployments) and the traditional summer activities of baseball and hot dogs, picnics and apple pie, beaches and boardwalks; one might argue that patriotism, much like our flag, is flying high this time of year.
Appreciating our liberties, remembering the cost of freedom, honoring our veterans - past and present, and respecting each other's right to life, liberties, and the pursuit of happiness, are part of what it means to be an American citizen. Contributing to the common good and recognizing our responsibility to protect and preserve our heritage as one nation under God, are important commitments.
In the spirit of American patriotism, Classy Plaques is featuring our American Flag Address Plaque in this post. What better way is there to honor a living veteran or commemorate a fallen one? Show your commitment to our country and all it stands for, by reminding yourself and others that America is still worth fighting for, by letting people know that a true blue patriot lives in your home.
To show our patriotic spirit and our support for the veterans who protect and preserve our way of life, Classy Plaques is offering a $20.00 discount on our American Flag Address Plaque through August. If someone in your family served or is serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, or is an American veteran, this would be a unique and special gift to honor and thank them for their service.
In the mean time, enjoy life in America this summer. Bask in your freedom - and don't forget to appreciate that you can do so. Let's remember to count our blessings! Many people around the world cannot even conceive of the freedom and liberty that we take for granted.
Solemn ceremonies and somber rituals have their place and can be meaningful from time to time but an attitude of gratitude for the many freedoms we enjoy is fun and easy. Glance at the flag during the 7th inning stretch at your next baseball game. Sing a chorus of 'Yankee Doodle Dandy' at a picnic in the park with your kids this summer. Thank a veteran for his/her service when you see someone in uniform. Remember God, family, and country when downing that big slice of apple pie at your next barbeque. Enjoy your freedom, have fun, and God bless America!
